As Yellowstone gears up for its final season, fans are eager to see how Beth Dutton’s (Kelly Reilly) story unfolds—especially as she navigates the complexities of her relationship with her husband, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), and her ongoing feud with her brother Jamie (Wes Bentley). Despite the turmoil outside their relationship, Beth and Rip’s bond remains a bright spot in her life.
When the last season picks up, Rip is in Texas, leading the cowboys away from Montana and temporarily leaving Beth behind. But, as Kelly Reilly explained to Entertainment Weekly, this separation is short-lived. “We start the show where Rip’s gone to Texas and Beth is miserable without him,” Reilly said. “Within 24 hours, she’s like, ‘When are you coming back?’” Unable to wait, Beth might even consider a visit to Texas herself.
For Reilly, Beth and Rip’s love story is a grounding element in the series. “He’s her main source of joy and happiness,” she shared. “She loves him with all her soul, and it is such a beautiful place for me to explore other sides of Beth. We all know the fighter, but she is vulnerable with her man and loves him from a very different place…from the healthiest part of her.”
Their romance, which began in their teenage years when Rip first came to the ranch, has been a constant source of depth for Beth’s character. Reilly loves portraying this enduring love and points out that one of Rip’s greatest strengths is his acceptance of Beth’s fiery spirit. “He just laughs at her when she’s crazy…he accepts her fully for who she is, which I think is a really underrated factor in marriage.”
Reflecting on what happiness might look like for Beth in a world without the weight of the Dutton family legacy, Reilly imagines her character’s dream of a simpler life. “If she didn’t have the burden of the ranch…what she wants is a very simple, quiet life on a piece of land that nobody wants, just to be with him. It’s unlike anything you would’ve imagined this woman wanted, but actually, that’s who she is.”
While a continuation of Beth and Rip’s story remains uncertain, Reilly hints that there are “nuggets of information” in this season that may reveal what a future could hold for them. “As the actor, I want to follow that,” she says, leaving open the possibility of exploring Beth’s softer side even further.
Fans will get to witness Beth’s journey and her enduring love for Rip when Yellowstone returns for its final season on Sunday, Nov. 10, on Paramount Network.
