Rihanna Claps Back at Commenter Criticizing Her Political Posts: ‘Where Were You on Jan. 6?’

Rihanna may not be able to vote in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, but that hasn’t stopped her from voicing her thoughts. On Instagram, the Barbadian pop star joked about “sneaking into the polls” with her American-born son’s passport to cast a vote. Her post, which included the hashtag “#votecauseicant,” highlighted her support for reproductive rights and urged Americans to take action in the election.

However, a commenter wasn’t pleased with Rihanna’s political stance, suggesting that celebrities should avoid influencing fans with their opinions. They questioned her involvement in American politics and took a jab, urging immigrants to “use the damn door.” Rihanna’s sharp response called out the commenter’s priorities: “Where were you in Jan 6 sis? Stick to your discounted crotch. We out here fighting for its rights!” she replied, referencing the Capitol insurrection of January 6, 2021.

Rihanna’s advocacy aligns with other high-profile voices in the current election cycle. Recently, Vice President Kamala Harris has garnered support from a wide range of celebrities, including Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and others who have spoken out in key battleground states. On the opposite end, Donald Trump’s campaign has also seen heightened scrutiny, with personalities like former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney and The View cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin warning voters about the dangers of a second Trump presidency.

For Rihanna, using her platform to promote civic engagement is a natural extension of her values, even if she can’t vote herself. As she continues to rally her American fans, Rihanna remains committed to speaking out on issues close to her heart — unafraid of criticism along the way.
