Country star Morgan Wallen has been sentenced to one week in incarceration and two years of probation following his guilty plea to reckless endangerment charges. The charges stem from an April incident where Wallen drunkenly threw a chair off a six-story rooftop in Nashville at Eric Church’s bar, Chief’s.
The sentencing, delivered by Judge Cynthia Chappell in Davidson County Circuit Court on Thursday, also includes a $350 fine and court fees. Wallen will serve his week of incarceration at a DUI education center.
Conditional Plea and Probation Terms
Wallen’s attorney, Worrick Robinson IV, clarified in a statement that the plea agreement falls under Tennessee’s Diversion Statute, which means the charges will not result in a conviction if Wallen completes his probation successfully.
“The plea agreement with the Office of the District Attorney requires Mr. Wallen to spend 7 days at a DUI Education Center, be on probation for 2 years — one year for each of the misdemeanor charges for reckless endangerment — pay a $350 fine and court fees,” Robinson said. “Upon the successful completion of his probation, the charges will be eligible for dismissal and expungement.”
Wallen Expresses Regret
Shortly after the April incident, Wallen expressed his regret on social media, saying, “I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility.” He also shared that he had apologized directly to those affected, including law enforcement and staff at Chief’s.
“I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe,” Wallen wrote. He assured fans that his behavior would not affect his tour schedule.
A Rising Star Despite Controversy
The incident has not derailed Wallen’s success. His October single “Love Somebody” debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, and his ongoing tour remains unaffected.
Wallen’s attorney added that the singer remains committed to making a positive impact through his music and foundation, signaling a focus on growth following the legal resolution of this case.
The sentencing marks another chapter in Wallen’s high-profile career, which has weathered public scrutiny before. However, his continued musical success suggests his fanbase remains loyal, even amid controversy.
