Vin Diesel Takes a Friendly Jab at The Rock During Golden Globes: ‘Hey Dwayne’

Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson put their longtime Fast & Furious feud on hold — at least for one night — during Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards.

Diesel, presenting the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award, paused on stage and casually said, “Hey Dwayne.” The brief moment sparked laughter and applause, with Johnson smiling in return.

It was a lighthearted nod to one of Hollywood’s most infamous feuds, which started on the Fast & Furious set years ago and played out publicly over social media.

The Origins of the Feud

Diesel and Johnson first worked together on Fast Five in 2011, where Johnson debuted his character Luke Hobbs. While their on-screen partnership was explosive, tensions off-screen began simmering by the time they filmed The Fate of the Furious in 2016.

That year, Johnson shared a now-deleted social media post calling out unprofessional behavior from some of his male costars.

“Some conduct themselves as stand-up men and true professionals, while others don’t,” Johnson wrote. He notably excluded Diesel from his later praise of the cast and infamously referred to unnamed colleagues as “candy a–es.”

Rumors swirled for years about the feud’s cause, with both actors taking veiled jabs at each other in interviews. Diesel claimed his “tough love” approach was necessary to get the best performance out of Johnson.

Johnson, however, wasn’t buying it. Speaking to Vanity Fair in 2021, he dismissed Diesel’s comments, saying, “One part of me feels like there’s no way I would dignify any of that bull—- with an answer.”

A Turning Point for the Franchise

Despite their differences, Johnson returned to the Fast & Furious universe in 2019’s spinoff Hobbs & Shaw and made a surprise appearance in Fast X’s mid-credits scene in 2023.

In a social media post last summer, Johnson confirmed that he and Diesel had finally buried the hatchet.

“Last summer @vindiesel and I put all the past behind us,” Johnson wrote. “We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve — and always take care of the franchise, characters, & FANS that we love.”

A Friendly Reunion at the Golden Globes

The Golden Globes moment seemed to reflect that newfound camaraderie.

While presenting the award, Diesel’s offhand remark, “Hey Dwayne,” signaled that the two megastars have moved past their rocky history — at least for now.

The playful exchange was a far cry from their tense interactions in years past and hinted at a renewed partnership in the future of the Fast & Furious franchise.

With Johnson set to lead a new film centered on Hobbs — reportedly a bridge between Fast X and Fast X: Part 2 — it seems the Fast family drama is finally back on track.

After all, as Dominic Toretto would say, “It’s all about family.”
