Ben Stiller has swapped his director’s chair for the driver’s seat in SZA’s latest music video, “Drive.” The soulful track, featured on the deluxe edition of her Grammy-winning album SOS—titled Lana—comes to life in a visually striking video that dropped alongside the album’s re-release on Friday.
A Night Drive with Stiller
Directed by Bradley J. Calder, the video showcases Stiller driving down a dark, winding road at dusk, his expressive lip-syncing in perfect harmony with the song’s moody vibe. As the song crescendos, the actor parks the car, stepping onto the empty highway to let loose in a dance that perfectly mirrors the raw emotion of SZA’s lyrics.
The video takes a surreal turn as SZA herself makes an appearance in the final moments. Donned in insect-like prosthetics reminiscent of the Lana album cover, the scene transitions seamlessly into “Crybaby,” another track from the expanded album.
SZA and Stiller’s Connection
While Stiller’s involvement might surprise some, fans know SZA is a self-professed Severance superfan. Earlier this year, the artist humorously tweeted at Stiller—who directs and executive produces the acclaimed Apple TV+ series—demanding a new season. Stiller’s playful reply sparked a series of starstruck tweets from SZA, where she hailed him as a “mad man,” “king,” and praised Severance as “the best show ever.”
When asked about their exchange during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Stiller quipped, “Whatever SZA wants, SZA gets.” Clearly, he meant it.
SOS (Lana): A Star-Studded Expansion
The deluxe edition of SOS adds 15 new tracks to the original hit album, including “30 For 30,” a collaboration with Kendrick Lamar. The release continues SZA’s streak of iconic music video collaborations, following appearances from Vivica A. Fox in “Kill Bill,” Drew Barrymore in “Drew Barrymore,” and Justin Bieber in “Snooze.”
SZA’s Next Moves
Beyond music, SZA is set to make her acting debut in One of Them Days, a comedy alongside Keke Palmer. The film follows two best friends scrambling to avoid eviction while navigating the ups and downs of their friendship. Directed by Lawrence Lamont and produced by Issa Rae, the movie hits theaters on Jan. 17—the same day Severance returns for its highly anticipated second season.
