Why Is Snoop Dogg in Tears? The Voice Premiere Gets Emotional — Twice!

Who knew Snoop Dogg could be such a softy? The rap icon showed his emotional side during the season 26 premiere of The Voice. Alongside fellow coaches Reba McEntire, Gwen Stefani, and Michael Bublé, Snoop brought the heart as the competition kicked off with the first round of Blind Auditions. While all four coaches are passionate about helping contestants reach their full potential, it’s Snoop Dogg who quickly became the most vocal champion of The Voice‘s mission — assisting artists in their pursuit of success, even if they don’t make it on the show.

The first moment that brought Snoop to tears came when 23-year-old crooner Ben Fagerstedt didn’t receive any button pushes for his rendition of “I’ve Got You Under My Skin.” As a fan of Michael Bublé, Ben’s hopes were high, but while the coaches didn’t turn, Bublé still offered Ben some coaching. He explained the difference between singing standards traditionally and with a pop voice, then hopped on stage for an impromptu duet with Ben. As sweet as the moment was, it was Snoop who found himself overcome with emotion. Wiping away tears, he explained, “That’s what this show is about, to make these people better at what they do, whether they make it to the show or not. That’s our job as coaches.”

Later in the episode, Snoop’s emotions got the best of him again when Reba McEntire used the newly introduced Coach Replay button. After country singer Kendall Eugene performed Morgan Wallen’s “Don’t Think Jesus” and none of the coaches turned around, Reba immediately regretted her decision. She praised Kendall’s performance and used the replay button to put him on her team, bringing Kendall to tears. As Kendall wept, Snoop found himself tearing up again, telling the other coaches, “When I see a man cry, it makes me cry.” He even urged Reba to give Kendall a hug, recognizing how much the moment meant to him.
